In November, Stora Enso celebrated its annual Safety Week, under the theme of “Caring for each other”. Due to Covid-19, many activities were held online as webinars, but there were also physical ones at the mills.

Many activities focused on safety in the workplace, but a lot of emphasis was also placed on health and wellbeing, home office and safety during free time.

In Paper Division, in addition to local activities at mills and offices, there were divisional activities linked to proactive risk management and awareness. Safety awards were granted in two categories: Contractor Safety and Best Executed Safety Idea.

Paper Best Executed Safety Idea Award 2020 to Kvarnsveden Mill

The Best Executed Safety Idea category was created to recognize and award ideas for improving safety in Paper division, for example in the areas of risk awareness, reducing high risks and improving safety culture in ways which also could be copied and implemented in other locations. .

From these excellent ideas, Safety Gym at Kvarnsveden mill by Anders “Löken” Löfgren, Superintendent in PM12, was selected as the winner. The award jury stated that the idea improves risk awareness and impacts many employees, also as a part of newly employed person´s induction. “Practical training in safety gym offers a tangible way of understanding the correct and safe working methods and the hands-on training there simulates normal working conditions well”, states Matti Jakonen, Safety Director in Paper Division.

“I am really happy to see that Anders Löfgren’s innovative idea on the Safety Gym is being recognized. Safety culture is built every day. For all of us working at the mill, I think it is a boost and it gives us even more energy to continue our accident free journey”, commented Rickard Eriksson, Mill Director at Kvarnsveden mill.

Certificates have been given to the winners in line with the current safety instructions based on Covid-19.
