Montréal, Canada, April 20, 2022/ After successful meetings with both federal ministers and Ontario government officials, FSC is heartened by the federal government’s April 20th deadline given to the Province of Quebec regarding the conservation of habitat for species-at-risk, woodland caribou.

At the UN Climate Summit in Glasgow, Scotland – known as COP26 – the world saw 100 countries sign the “Declaration on Forests and Land Use” to halt and reverse forest loss and land degradation by 2030 while delivering sustainable development and promoting inclusive rural transformation.

FSC Canada, in collaboration with The Firelight Group, have published learning videos on the implementation of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) Guidance in the FSC Canada National Forest Stewardship Standard.

The assessment conducted by a group of consultants, looks at the economic, environmental, and social impacts of managing Intact Forest Landscapes (IFLs) in Canada and advances our understanding of the characteristics of Intact Forest Landscapes and the impacts of protecting them, in the short to mid-term.

FSC has included the FSC core labour requirements in its chain of custody standard to provide added protection for the rights of workers in all FSC certified operations.
